Submissions

Cholla Needles is a print publication, except for book/magazine reviews which are posted on-line. See below for info on submitting reviews.

We accept poetry/short stories/creative essays/art and photographs.

Payment is two copies of the printed magazine to US authors. (Note: Authors from other countries will receive a pdf due to the cost of international postage. We will save the print copies for you for when you visit our beautiful area again.)

Submit six to twelve original poems via email to editor@chollaneedles.com. Poems can be in the body of the email, or attached. Stories and essays should be approx 3,000 words. On-line essays can be any length. Art and photographs should be sent as hi-res jpgs - as attachments, or within a zip file to maintain the best quality. We answer quickly, and do not appreciate or accept simultaneous submissions.

A brief author bio and photo will be asked for upon acceptance.

Copyright returns to the original author upon publication.

Cholla Needles also publishes books by our contributors.
Queries welcome.

We suggest reading a sample issue to help yourself become familiar with our format. Each issue consists of ten chapbooks within two covers. Each month readers receive these 10 chapbooks by current writers for $5.

Please note: We reserve the right to edit prose sent in with line breaks back into prose pieces. We accept the work because we love it, and feel it has become too commonplace for writers to pass off their wonderful writing as poetry. We have allowed this in the past because we were not receiving much of it. Now it's the bulk of what folks are sending here. Poetry, of course, will continue to be published with the line breaks the author chooses. Thanks for understanding this policy.

BOOK/MAGAZINE REVIEWS: We welcome literary book and magazine reviews, which will be posted on-line. Review should include author, title, publisher, price & reviewer name. Focus on the positive! We prefer to simply not mention books that have negative reviews - why waste your time, and reader's time talking about something not worth reading? Submit reviews to editor@chollaneedles.com.
